It has been announced that voice actress Romi Park will voice the audio guidance system for Syd Mead: PROGRESSIONS TYO 2019. Romi Park served as the voice actress for Loran Cehack, protagonist of the 1999 Turn-A Gundam series. This exhibition honors the work of the famed, world-class industrial designer and “visual futurist” Syd Mead, known for his design works on popular Hollywood films such as Aliens, Tron, and Blade Runner. Syd Mead also served as the mechanical designer for Turn-A Gundam, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
This exhibition consists of four parts selected from the vast archive owned by Mead and also selected by Japan.
The first is “PROGRESSIONS”, showcasing his early watercolor paintings to the latest works for the first time in Asia.
The second is “Movie Art”, which showcases unpublished concept paintings from the production design of Hollywood films he’s designed.
The third is “TYO Special” focusing on his designs in Japanese works centering on anime such as Turn-A Gundam and Yamato 2520.
The exhibition is being held at 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Tokyo from April 27 – May 19, 2019.
Regular admission tickets for the exhibition are priced at 2,000 yen for high school and college students, 1,000 yen for elementary students, and free of charge for handicapped people and one accompanying person.
